At least you are aware of your negative behavior!  That’s a good step in the right direction!  Even if you slip a little, you just need to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start over.  We’ve all slipped ourselves once or twice!

As for your questions, I don’t have a lot of time…but preparing yourself for weight loss is both mental and physical.  I personally was not in a place to lose weight before…I was hiding behind my weight and blamed a lot on it.  I’m doing Weight Watchers and the meetings and eTools are a huge help for me.  Even if you are not doing WW, journaling (Food Journal/Activity Journal, etc.) helps a ton!  I am an emotional eater so I try to make sure I plan ahead for whatever may trigger it (stress, etc.) and try to munch on fruits and veggies instead of junk food!  No, I am not a smoker.  Support is a big help!  From others on here, co-workers, family, friends, etc.  I actually am doing WW with an old HS friend.  It helps us to both keep on plan.  Have a great day!

    Take care and God bless!

Ok, here goes.  Hopefully these answers are something you can use and adapt to your own life and make them work.  I am a serious emotional eater.  So everytime something doesn’t go my way I want to rush to the store and get chips and cookies.  I still struggle with wanting to eat whem I am stressed, but I started by telling myself that I could have them if I was willing to walk to the store to get them.  If it wasn’t worth the walk, it wasn’t worth eating.  And if it was worth the walk at least I was burning some of those extra calories.  And staying focused is easier if you don’t see your journey as a diet.  I have begun looking at it as a total lifestyle change.  I can only change to please one person - me!  Do not do this for anyone else or the tendency is to shift the blame if you fail to someone else and that sets you up to fail.  If you only try to do this for you alone, you will be much more successful.  I do not smoke but I do find that down time needs to be occupied time.  If I do my crocheting or cross stitching, I find I do not eat without thinking about it.  One of the things that has been very successful in our house is not to limit what we eat so much as to limit how much we eat.  We have started using much smaller plates and you would be amazed.  Your brain sees a full plate while you are only eating about half of what you would normally take.  We also have tried partitioned plates with only greens in the large portion and meat and potatoes in the smaller sections.  The only other thing I would suggest that you do is to set small goals (10-15 pounds at the most) and then enjoy your success.  Do not look at the big picture.  It is too much for your heart and mind to handle.  Look only to the small goal.  It is much easier to see it through to a 10 pound weight loss that a 40 or 50 pound loss.  You don’t get nearly as discouraged because you can see yourself closing in on the goal.  Just think, 3 pounds is 33% of the way to a ten pound goal but only 10% of a 30 pound goal!  So keep your goals realistic and remember you didn’t gain weight in a week, a month, or even a year, and it is best if it comes off the same way, slowly and deliberately.  good luck and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
